I CAN'T WRITE

How long has it been since you decided to do what you have always dreamed of doing, but talked yourself out of it? I don't have time. I'll think about it later, and later hasn't come yet. What talent is hidden in you that you have never taken the time to let be revealed?

Writing a novel was a distant dream. I wrote skits for puppets, plays for church holidays, and little children's books, but I never thought a novel was possible. Just seemed too big.

Then COVID hit the US.

Every day I read from a daily Bible. OT, Psalm, Proverbs, NT. One night, I was reading a selection from Esther. My mind went to my grandchildren. I thought, "I think I'll write and make a little book for my granddaughters about Esther." That didn't seem too hard. So, I grabbed my laptop and started taking notes of what I'd like to emphasize in the book.

As I began to write, I realized it was as if she was right there with me. I could hear her voice. I could see the setting, the characters, the palace, Haman, the king. Before long, I realized it was no longer a children's book. I wrote night and day. Once I finished, I wasn't sure then what to do with it.

Long story, too long, I published it not even knowing if it were any good. But my pastor's wives on the district were more excited about it than I was. They bought the book and allowed me to offer it to their women.

Here's the point. Women have heard for years that they are not to speak, preach, or teach (except little kids). But God speaks to us. God hasn't told us to be quiet. The Bible is full of women God used to prophecy, teach, anoint, and minister—even to give birth to kings and leaders.

You have a voice. If God speaks to you, can you share it to encourage, teach, illustrate, or maybe even testify about it? Let me encourage you to take the plunge. Many women tell me "I can't write." but they talk. They think. They lead. So find your voice. Write. You'll be glad you did.
